A human can be used as a fighter/archer, you often see them with>70% in both melee and range hit. If you want mostly an archer, emphasize range%, if you want a fighter get more strength (goes up to 17 for humans) and hp. Disadvantage of human fighters-low hp, advantage-you can get higher hit% and more agility than with orcs, minotaurs or dwarfs, which allows you to strike more often. Humans can also have a high-ish magic>15, and can be equipped with a basic high% healing spell, e.g. 'first aid', making them fun as fighter-archer-healers

The way the game runs atm, this multi-classing is for fun only; it is easier to win using pure fighters, archers and mages simply because the weapons and spells are much more expensive than the gladiators. Tactical units of this type would be useful if the restriction on the total number of gladiators became important: the limit for the number of gladiators is 6 and it is not too difficult to win the league with 4-5 well-equipped gladiators

Best pure archers are harmen, you do need to give them a decent bow before they become useful (at least a longbow). The most important characteristic is range hit %, though strength does add to the damage and a decent amount of hp will help keep the archer alive. As they upgrade, harmen tend to get 0-1 hp, 2% range hit 1% melee hit and 2% dodge for each level up. Best pure mages are specters. You need both high magic(>20) and high stamina (>18) again hit points are also useful as specters only get 0-1 hp per level up.
Humans and shadow elves are good for multi-classing. You can get a shadow elf with 20-22 magic and around 70-80% melee hit to make a good mage, that, unlike specters, is pretty hard to kill and can do some hand-to-hand damage. You could also make an elf into an archer-mage combo, but it seems pretty useless in this game as both magic and shooting are slow and over distance (although archer-healer could be useful).

Wisdom for other players: there are broadly three type of ways to use your gladiators: as fighters, archers or mages. Before you add other types of gladiators you need at least 2 fighters in order to win most of the initial battles. For a fighter it seems that the most important characteristics are strength, melee hit % and hit points. It is also good to have agility above 10. The best fighters are then probably golems, though I personally find them too slow. My preferred fighter choice are dwarfs, though orcs and minotaurs can be very good too. I try to hire one of these, with hp>30, melee hit > 70%, strength at least 16, but preferably 18 or more, agility>10, give them a heavy weapon, let the enemy come to them and watch them knock their opponents back again and again until they win.

Really fun game! Having played this for a couple of days, here are recommendations to the developers (excellent concept and execution btw!):
-make it possible to pass equipment between gladiators
-make equipment costs closer to the costs of hiring gladiators
-give a little more details on how various things such as action points, hit %, equipment weight etc work
-make AI follow a defensive strategy if it has more missile and slower units
-make AI a little more erratic as it is too predictable atm, e.g. make it randomly switch between 2-3 predetermined strategies if it is losing a fight
-you could introduce injuries to gladiators that would keep them out of several subsequent fights, this will require a larger roster from which you select 6 gladiators for each fight
-release a sequel!!! this game has a lot of complexity and flexibility built in that has been left unexplored

Hands down one of my favorite games, however, I like the idea for a second one. This game has a few bugs that REALLY need to be fixed (particularly the bug where it says who wins the leagues) but overall a great game. Possibly add new classes, new maps, more leagues (than just four), tournaments, multiplayer, more weapons (spells, bows, etc.), better graphics, a better critical hit system (I hit 64's with a minotaur that has gloves), show what armor/weapons enemies have, an overall win-lose record, possibly rare races (for example, shadow hunters (125% range hit minimum) and so on), and several other things. If you could update this, I personally would be a major fan! Good luck and thanks for the game!
