the spitters are produced by the end boss not you and there can be 4 of them (I know I got them) and the boss is beatable with whatever weapon you decide to use. use the best shield available in the shop and use it as it is meant to be used. the energy bolts are stoppable and just hang there until you hit them towards the boss. any number between 5 and 8 seems to be required to defeat the boss.
I used 5 bolts in the last try and without the cursed ring you leave the princess behind.
still not worth more than I already gave.
Defeating The Boss can be quite a challenge. I was having problems until I contacted fergusferret. He gave me the info on how to defeat the Boss. Use your shield to 'block' his energy attacks. They then stay on the screen as energy 'balls'. Use your weapon to propel these energy balls at The Boss. Eight or nine hits will finish him off.
Hope this helps.
BTW. I did complete the game and had an actual end-game sequence, not just a blank screen. For what it's worth.

For a game that is otherwise so simplistic the ending is way out of character.
Some other points:
loading times are too long
controls get stuck sometimes (have to click mouse to escape from this state)
lag during last fight
It has possibilities but poor execution, can't give more than 2 stars the way it is now
What a poorly designed game this is!!!! After you learn to avoid the game-stopping events, you must progress through the game collecting Wood, Stone, and Leather in order to 'build' a Cursed Ring. Without this ring, you cannot free the Princess! The problem is, if you don't use your keys in the proper order, you'll get the Boss Key before you've collected sufficient Leather for The Ring. You'll find yourself locked-out of two rooms with no chance of getting the keys to enter them. Hence you are a couple of leather 'short' for The Ring.
For a game that depends upon collecting the proper quantity of resources to 'build' the Cursed Ring, you just never know how many resources you have and how many you need unless you take a trip back to The Shop. Not including an Inventory feature for this game shows the lack of planning and forethought that went into this game design.
What a Massive Waste of programming effort!
