Well, I returned to see if my second attempt to play this game was successful, and it was!

Just completed this game, both the initial play-through and the New Game Plus. For those who have played the initial game but not bothered with the New Game Plus, you ought to give it a try. There's nothin' like playing with the Best Toys, after all! It's the same game sequence, but you begin with your current progress , level, experience, and 'stats. Oh, and the opponents can be much more difficult. Most of these opponents can cast some sort of 'heal' spell; many can cast regenerate (yes, even dinosaurs!). For that reason, I found it useful to keep each opponent Silenced while in battle. When you get enough experience and Mana, you can use the Disease spell which not only inflicts End Round 'disease' damage (800-1000 points depending upon your level), but also Stuns the opponent for one phase and Silences them for two full Rounds. After the two Rounds, it must be recast to keep the opponent Silenced.

Both the initial game and the New Game Plus suffer from the 'lack' of souls gained after a melee ("The enemy was too weak to obtain its soul"). This can even apply to the Bosses in the Castles! Quite irritating, really!

The $$ earned from each battle is somewhat disproportionate to the cost of Potions and such, the rewards from the 'chest' are totally random, as is the number of 'volunteers' who join your army from the local villages. However, all of this can be easily offset from within the game, itself.

Please visit the Forum, Other Games, to read The Spoiler for this.

What can I say about this game? Well, if it actually allowed me to progress past the first castle, I'd say I'll continue to play on, 'cause it's kinda a neat game.

However, I've completed everything I can up to the castle and, since I don't have any 'front line units' I cannot engage towards victory! All I have is some plans to build amarket and no place to build it. The melees are now so simple that I can't even collect more souls!

I really don't think that this game is ready for Prime Time yet. If it ever gets updated so that it works, I'll give it another try. But for me, it doesn't work.

No, the game IS literally unplayable for me.

Obviously I wasn't talking about bugs like your situation. I was talking about the potions issue and the game supposedly being too hard.

Some skills need balancing, the game is far too easy though poor skill choices in the early game can get you stuck pretty quick. Even randomizing who goes first would make a difference. After a time the exact same strat is good for all battles and it is just repetitive to get to the end.

I have to say that a lot of the comments here are slightly off base. There definitely are some issues but this game is far from unplayable because of them.

No, the game IS literally unplayable for me. As I stated before, I never did get any catapult blueprints, so I cannot take the second and 3rd castles, so I cannot build the advanced dock, so I am literally stuck on the first island with no way to progress.

I could start over and try to see if I could collect the catapult blueprints, but that blueprints bug isn't the only thing wrong with this game, so my desire to do this is nil.

With a quick update, this game could be fairly awesome. As it it, it's not balanced enough.

part 2:

I wish there was a way to auto-finish castle battles when enemy troops are all dead.

I found that when using catapults you can kill the castle with them and use the front line troops as simple shields. I even got the dragon at a later date and it allows for the castles to be destroyed very quickly indeed

I am pedantic at times and decided to finish and try the play+ version.

I am convinced that the soul collecting is set to only allow a few souls to be collected in the first part and the second is set to give souls at will almost.., I will be finding out at some point soon I think.

the money for killing doesn't seem to relate at all to the enemy. even the bosses give little in return.

part 2:

There is a point toward the end of the first island and a bit after where the game is difficult but it soon gets very easy. Actually, had I been a little smarter in selecting skills, I probably wouldn't have had a problem at all. Choose your skills wisely and the game is a piece of cake. I've won all the tournaments and am demolishing the bosses.

I wish there was a way to auto-finish castle battles when enemy troops are all dead.

I have to say that a lot of the comments here are slightly off base.

There definitely are some issues but this game is far from unplayable because of them. Perhaps the worst issue is the 'use most appropriate potion' button which uses the biggest potion you have. So it's a big waste blowing a 5000 HP potion when you don't even have 1000 HP yet. And yes, potions are hard to come by but at the moment I'm at level 31 and I haven't used a potion in a very long time. In fact, I never even had to buy any more potions other than what I was left with.
